Cardiologists can stent narrow or blocked large trunks or branches of coronary arteries, but they can not do anything about the smaller or more distal branches. Some patients have diagnosis of mitral valve prolapsed (a floppy heart valve) and are told it is not a disease, however, they do frequently notice fatigue, insomnia and anxiety, and they may have weak blood perfusion of the heart muscles.
Traditional Chinese Medicine and Cardiovascular Health
A major part of what TCM does is to improve blood circulation. Through acupuncture and Chinese herbs, most of my patients improve quickly and notice better quality of life. Using the same approach I have also helped number of patients with irregular heart beats and patients with high blood pressure. With herbal mixture tailored to each individual, their BP frequently improve, use of prescription medications reduced and less of side effects experienced from prescription drugs.
Of course TCM is not to replace western medicine, instead, acupuncture and herbs are used as an adjunct. Recently there have been studies in western medical literature validating the effectiveness of acupuncture in management of irregular heart beat/cardiac arrhythmia.
