Acupuncture and Chemo-Induced Fatigue

Fatigue is one of the most common symptoms experienced by cancer patients.  The symptoms are persistent, disproportionate to the level of exertion, and it can not be relieved by rest, and it has a significant impact on overall quality of life.

Acupuncture was performed on patients who had completed cytotoxic therapy an average of more than 2 years previously, but experienced persisting fatigue.  The patients showed a mean improvement of 31.1%. (1)

Also, acupuncture showed a 36% improvement in fatigue levels in patients with cancer who experienced moderate to severe fatigue. The improvements were observed even 2 weeks after treatments, although they were lower.
