A 60 year old female came for acupuncture for her knee pain. She had been told that she had to be operated on by a surgeon.
This lady became pain free after 5 acupuncture sessions given once a week and has remained pain free since. She regained all her function and has been playing golf regularly for the last several years.
Acupuncture for Knee Pain
Many patients ask me – Can acupuncture help my knees? My answer is – it depends on whether there is severe underlying diagnosis and the severity of the structural damage. Those who have severe degeneration of knee joints probably would not have significant durable relief from acupuncture. On the other hand, mild to moderate inflammatory arthritis or soft tissue injury may benefit significantly.
Acupuncture also helps patients who do not tolerate NSAIDS (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) because of the side effects.
